Welcome to Casa Laura

Since the day we opened our doors, this house was envisioned as a home for travelers who love nature, art, stillness, and the beauty of authenticity.

Every corner has been created with care, with the intention of offering not only a comfortable stay, but an experience that feels embracing and memorable.

Here, among old walls and gardens, you will find paintings and sculptures created by Latin American artists, hand-embroidered textiles, pottery from the Highlands of Chiapas, and antiques that have found a new home within these walls.

The soul of Casa Laura is its central garden: a small oasis where tropical and mountain plants flourish, visited constantly by hummingbirds, butterflies, and little fish.

Casa Laura carries its name in honor of Laura — a generous, radiant, and deeply kind mother whose spirit inspires us every day to make this space a place of love, tenderness, warmth, and beauty.

In this home, every work of art, every antique, every textile, every flower, and every small detail carries our affection, so that your stay here becomes something you will carry in your heart long after you leave.

The Neighborhood and its’ History

El Cerrillo is one of the oldest and most emblematic historic neighborhoods in San Cristóbal de las Casas — and the home of Casa Laura.

A neighborhood shaped by resilience, dignity, and the history of Indigenous communities who, after reclaiming their freedom, built here their temple, their homes, and their legacy.

Its stone streets, living traditions, old iron workshops, legends, and layered history make this place one of the cultural and spiritual hearts of the city.

And right here, where Doctor Navarro Street ends and Yajalón Avenue begins, lies the famous curve known as La Cola del Diablo — a corner wrapped in legend, mystery, and oral tradition, deeply woven into the collective imagination of this colonial city.

In every room, you will find a small magazine that tells these stories and legends in much greater depth.

Discover San Cristóbal by foot

Your home, Casa Laura, is located at Yajalón 1, in the area known as La Cola del Diablo, right where Doctor Navarro Street comes to an end.

From Casa Laura’s front door, a short walk will take you straight into the heart of San Cristóbal de las Casas.

Just minutes away, you’ll find:

Templo de Santo Domingo de Guzmán and its artisan market
Catedral de San Cristóbal de las Casas and the main square (Zócalo)
Andador Real de Guadalupe
Iglesia de Guadalupe
Arco del Carmen

You’ll still be within the historic center, but in one of its quietest and most peaceful corners — the perfect place to explore the city slowly, be surprised, and discover its treasures step by step.
